FG Anthem - What's Your Fave?
Happy Tuesday, Fab Gals!

Last night, as I was driving home and singing as loud as possible to Taylor Swift, I decided something: music is an amazing friend. It always knows just what to say. When I need a pick-me-up, I have dozens of songs on my iPod that do the trick. And when I just want to reminisce or cry... Well, there are songs for that, too.

That's why this week is all about music. And, since TheFabGal.com is getting a makeover, I thought we should pick out a song, or FG Anthem, to go with it. Check out the possibilities below and let me know what you think!

"Firework" by Katy Perry
While most (okay, all) of us don't shoot fireworks out of our bodies, we all have something within us that makes us shine if we open up.

"With You" by Jessica Simpson
This one has been around a while - almost ten years if you can believe it! What I love is not only the sweet lyrics, but that Jessica is not afraid to make fun of herself (That "plata-ma-pus" shirt? I want one!).

"Moment 4 Life" by Nicki Minaj & Drake
Writing and hanging out with my friends makes me "feel so alive." Rapping and playing Cinderella with Drake does it for Nicki. What does it for you?

"Hit The Lights" by Selena Gomez & The Scene
I love this video because it reminds me of my friends and I, having adventures by day and dancing crazy by night. Also, it makes me want to go out and face the fears that hold me back.

Those are some of my picks. But what do you think should be the FG Anthem? Do you like one of these, or is there another one I missed? Share your votes or suggestions in the comments below, and I'll feature our pick on the new site!

xoxo

Speaking Up for Real Beauty
Hey hey FGs!
I have been so fascinated lately by all the talk going on about Jessica Simpson, and the recent photographs that everyone seems to have a comment on. Her outfit has been bashed, and her body picked apart and labeled - everything from "curvy" to "fat."

Normally, I would say it's just best to stay away from this kind of media and the nasty body talk. It just perpetuates our ideas about beauty, weight, and what's considered acceptable to say about other people. But I'll admit - I've been obsessed, clicking on every Jessica link I've seen (believe me, there are quite a few!). It's just so strange. We always say that we are so over the skinny thing, and everyone tears apart the stick-thin celebs. But if someone does look normal, whether or not she has gained weight, everyone feels they have the right to call her a pig. No wonder we are all so confused about beauty.

But as I was on my celebrity gossip frenzy, I found on article on Us Magazine's website. They talked about her "new curves" in some back-handed way to seem nice. But when I scrolled to the bottom, so many people had left comments. And most of them were talking back. They said things about how she looked beautiful the way she is, but that it really isn't our right in the first place to decide what her body should look like. And I am so glad these people chose to say (or type) what they did.

You see, you can try to stay away from the negative media all you want. But sooner or later, you have to face it. So I think the better approach is to face it - and speak up when you see something you don't like. Things won't go away just because you ignore them. Now, I understand that speaking up may not change the way the media works. But it will give you the power to have your own voice and make your own decisions about what beauty means to you. And that's beautiful in itself.

xoxo

Fab Gal Top 10: Music
Bonjour Fab Gals!

Ok, so here is the weekly Top 10. This week, I am going to count down the top 10 FG songs to pump you up.

1. "Never Underestimate a Girl" - Vanessa Hudgens
The name says it all!
2. "Nobody's Perfect" - Hannah Montana
Okay, I just love all of Hannah's (or Miley's) music. So fun, and it all has a positive message to it.
3. "My Hallelujah Song" - Julianne Hough
If you don't recognize Julianne, she was one of the dancers on Dancing with the Stars - and the next big thing in country.  This song is so cute and sweet!
4. "A Place in This World" - Taylor Swift
I think this one is basically my theme song. Taylor always knows just what to say, it's like she's read your diary.
5. "Crazy Dreams" - Carrie Underwood
Carrie's crazy dreams certainly came true! This one is for anyone who has sung into their hairbrush and dreamed of winning American Idol.
6. "Walking on Sunshine" - Aly & AJ
This one is a remake, and just as fun as a perfect summer day.
7. "In This Skin" - Jessica Simpson
It's hard to believe that Jessica Simpson ever felt uncomfortable in her skin! It just goes to show that everyone feels that way.
8. "So Bring It On" - The Cheetah Girls
These kitties are fierce! This song channels their can-do-anything attitude.
9. "That's Just the Way We Roll" - Jonas Brothers
Okay, so I usually don't let boys on the countdown. But I love that the Jonas Brothers are totally crazy and totally cool with just hanging out being themselves. This song is about that.
10. "This is Me" - Demi Lovato
Did you watch Camp Rock? I hope so! I loved it, and I haven't even seen the end yet. I love the message, and I love this song so much, I think I'm going to go download it now!

So that's my top 10 list of songs that make me feel totally Fab. But how about you FGs? What are your favorites? Leave a comment to let me know. (By popular demand, I put some instructions on the left panel in case you're not sure how to!).

xoxo
