Where Did the Mean Girls Go?
Hello FGs!

So we've all known them. Maybe they're not as scary as The Plastics, but you heard they made a girl cry. And everybody talks about them, but not to their face - hello, they're the mean girls! You're pretty sure they don't have a nice bone in their body.

Believe me, I've known plenty of them. Those girls always scare me - I always feel like less around them. But when I was at camp this summer, I saw things from a different perspective. Since all of us were around each other 24/7, we established our opinions of the other campers, fair or not, pretty quickly. There were a few girls that pretty much got pegged as mean girls. Neither of them was in my close circle, but I got to know them both well enough to know that was not true at all. The first one, we'll call J, came off a little hard - but she was actually a really considerate person, and she always came to me for a second fashion opinion. The other one, also J, actually - everyone thought she had a bad attitude, but the truth is, she was just outspoken and opinionated, and was hilarious and really nice underneath all that.

So it made me kinda sad when I heard people saying bad things about these two, because they weren't any more flawed than anyone else there. It made me think twice about some of the people, the mean girls, that I had been so intimidated by before. Certainly, there are some girls that do lash out and do really nasty stuff to bring other girls down, for no apparent reason. But maybe sometimes we put people in their position before we have really given them a chance. It's just like any other stereotype - the smart girl, or the shy girl, or whatever. It doesn't give anyone the chance to see past that title, however true or untrue it might be.
I'm not saying you need to be best friends with the "mean girls" at your school, and if someone is treating you badly, you definitely should not take it. But next time you start to feel intimidated or talk about someone behind their back, think if you really know who this person is. You might be surprised to know that they really aren't a mean girl at all.

xoxo

Fab Gal Top 10: Movies
Hey Fab Gals!

It's time for the weekly top 10. This week I am going to count down the top 10 Fab Gal movies, all 100% fun, each with a kick-butt Fab Gal lead (and a happy ending, of course!).

1. Legally Blonde: I love this one! Elle Woods starts out really ditzy at first, and she chases a boy to Harvard (Bad Idea!). But in the end, she realizes she doesn't need him to be a fabulous, always-pink lawyer.

2. Miss Congeniality: An FBI agent turned beauty queen? No way. Of course, she is reluctant at first, but she learns a LOT about judging appearances (and what the pageant girls really use hairspray for...).

3. Hairspray: Super-fun music and a good music. Tracy Turnblad is a crazy girl trying to live her dream and have fun along the way. Sounds like some Fab Gals I know.

4. What a Girl Wants: Of course, I love Amanda Bynes! In this one, she gets in some wild situations as she tries to get to know her father - who happens to be royalty - and figure out who she is. Super-cute ending!

5. The Devil Wears Prada: Scary fashion villain alert! Andy Sachs tries to break into the journalism world by working at Runway magazine, but gets wrapped up in the superficial life of the fashion world.

6. Super Sweet 16: Based on the TV show, two best friends get in a major party war to have the biggest blow-out. Although the girls on the show never seem to learn, I promise this one turns out well! Plus - Aly & AJ rock!

7. Pillow Talk: If you don't know who Doris Day is, you should! She was an actress in the '60s, and the ultimate Fab Gal. Her characters were always classy, successful, and wouldn't fall into any guy's trap... until she falls in love. Aww!

8. A Cinderella Story: A modern-day version of the classic, starring one of my faves - Hilary Duff. It's safe to say that the evil stepmomgets what she deserves in the end, and the "princess" finds her Prince Charming.

9. The Little Mermaid: You've gotta love this one! My favorite part is that Ariel never stops dreaming or going on adventures. She wouldn't have found her prince if she didn't!

10. Mean Girls: Fab Gals gone bad! Cady learns her lesson after getting wrapped up in the glam but troubled life of "The Plastics." Very funny, too!

Enough about me, what is on your Top 10 list, Fab Gal? Leave a comment to let me know!
