| Silence, Please |
Hello Fab Gals!
Lately, I've been feeling a little foggy, like I haven't really been able to think clearly. I mean, when life gets really fast-paced, as it often does at this time of year, it gets really noisy too. It's like dancing through life with the radio on - it's fun at first, but sometimes you just need quiet, to hear your own heartbeat, your own thoughts. Then, I was in an interview the other day, and the woman asked me, when talking about my writing and such, "Why is it that you want to do this, why is it so important to you?" Pause. Wait, what? I couldn't even remember at the moment. It was definitely time to clear my head.
So I decided that, this weekend, I would find one hour of time just for me, hoping to find some clarity and inspiration. I wanted to get away from everything, so I started walking. Away from my house, away from my school, past the museum I used to volunteer at and my fave restaurant. I kept walking, thinking I needed to find a quiet place, away from all of these familiar ones. But I soon realized that if I went further, I would reach my mom's office, the movie theatre I've been to a million times, and the building where we had our school dance. It was like a quiet place, away from all the pieces of my life, didn't even exist.
But you really can't just "get away" from your life completely. It's all a part of you - past memories, people, present conflicts, all of it. I mean, I could jump on a plane and fly to Fiji, but I don't think that would really give me any more answers than I have here. What I think is that you have to learn to tap into your personal silence, that comes with having the strength of knowing where you stand well enough to be able to take in the noisiness of life, and then tune it out for a moment to know what your "answers" are. Maybe that's what they mean by intuition.
Now I'm not saying that I have found this place exactly, this intuition or clarity. I was really only outside an hour. But I am pretty sure it exists. And the whole point of this long story is that, when you are faced with big decisions, frustrations, and confusion, try to turn down the noise of your life for a moment so you can hear that voice. You know what's right, and you have that personal strength, FG. You just have to learn to tap into it. Once you do, the noise of your life will start to sound a lot more like sweet music.
xoxo

| Can't I Have Both? |
Hey there FGs!
Like we talked about, there are so many choices a Fab Gal has to make everyday. Friends, activities, shoes... too much to think about. It can mess with your head sometimes. But don't stress. Here are some tips for when life requires a little more than "eenie-meenie-miney-moe."
- Pros and Cons - It is always a good place to start. What's good about one choice? What about the other? What will you miss out on if you go this way? Making a list can help you start organizing your thoughts.
- Talk it Out - Of course, your opinion is the one that matters most. But sometimes, it can be nice to have someone to talk things over with, be it a mom, brother, or friend. Sometimes just saying things out loud can make everything clear, and they may have some good points. But remember - you need to listen to your heart in the end.
- Respect Yourself - You should never make a decision based on how you will seem to someone else. But you should consider the impression that you will make on yourself. If you know that making a choice will make you feel bad or won't match you and your beliefs, then there is no choice. It can be hard, but you always need to respect who you are.
- Listen to your Gut - What feels like the right decision? Sometimes our intuition is trying to guide us in the right direction, we just don't always listen. If you have a good or bad feeling you can't explain, go with it. It's probably right.
- Don't Worry - You are totally Fab, but you are not perfect. Sometimes we make mistakes. Things don't always turn out how we expect. That's okay. You've got a lot of life and a lot of choices ahead of you, so just learn from this one and move on.
Have you had to make any difficult decisions lately? What helped you get through them? Leave a comment to let your FGs know! xoxo The Fab Gal Labels: decisions, fab gal, intuition, self esteem |

| Young at Heart |
Hey hey Fab Gals! Have you ever watched a little kid and noticed how comfortable they are in their own skin? I think it's so funny - they know themselves and what they need better than a lot of adults. I don't think you would ever catch a little kid pinching their fat in the mirror or overeating or getting mad at themselves. Kids have this amazing ability to know what their bodies need, no worries. It's intuition - but somewhere along the way we lose it. I know how it is, Fab Gals: life is really crazy. Once you start to grow up, there's school and friends and everything is changing all the time. There's a lot of pressure, and sometimes it feels amazing just to make it through the day in one piece! Don't get me wrong - there are major perks to being a teen. I know I didn't get a cell phone or to go to the mall by myself when I was 5. And it's nice to be away from time-outs and footie pajamas. Maybe, though, we can tap into some of the things that we knew as a kid. Intuitive eating, a new big movement in health, is a "no-diet" philosophy that is based on listening to your body, eating what you want, and stopping when you're full. Nobody knows how to do that better than a kid! Kids are truly free spirits - they live in the moment and are who they are, no complaints. And they enjoy themselves! There's no reason we can't have that too.
So go ahead Fab Gals- grab a jump rope. Make Kool-Aid. Wear jelly shoes. Then pick up your cell and go to the mall. Just remember: you know who you are and what you need, you just have to listen. Leave room for your imagination and room to grow. And always feel free to play. What about you, FGs? What do you miss about being a kid? What are the best (and worst) parts of being the age you are? Leave a comment to let me know what you think! xoxo The Fab Gal Labels: being yourself, fab gal, intuition, listening to your body, play |
