This Could Be OUR Year
Hey Fab Gals!

So, I know I have been MIA for the last week. I just have a major amount of stuff to get ready before its time to hit the books again. Yep, it's time to ring in the new (school) year. Going back to school can be a lot of things. Stressful. Exciting. Busy. Or maybe you're totally dreading the end of the lazy summer days.

Secretly, I have always kind of loved going back to school. It just seemed like there are so many possibilities - new friends, new adventures, new clothes, new crushes. Then, by about half way through the year, I am usually sick of school all over again.

And it's true, there's a lot of not-so-great parts about school. Loads of homework. Earlier curfew. Blah Mondays. Lunch room drama. Yikes. You just never know when a book report or hallway rumor is going to come around and hit you in the face. But then, you never really know when something great is going to happen either.

Okay, so I'm really not trying to be a total bummer. What I'm trying to say is this: Sure, school can be totally lame. But you can't just overlook all of the great parts about it, like seeing your friends, playing your fave sports, and becoming an even more Fab version of you. You just never know what kinds of great things will happen by time the last bell rings. So don't forget to enjoy it.

xoxo

Here We Go Again
Hello Fab Gals!

So, a new school year is almost here. Just a few weeks, or maybe even a few days (yikes!) away for some of us. Now, you may not be at all excited for homework and early mornings, but there are ways to make the transition a little bit easier (and more fun, too).
  • Get organized. By the end of the year, when it's time to clean out lockers, you're probably doing the "Huh, so that's where that went!" Okay. But starting out with a clean slate makes at least the first few weeks a little easier and stress-free. So clean out your folders, recycle all those old papers, and get ready to go.
  • Make it you. Some classes are a total snooze. There's not much magic you can pull to change that. But you can always liven up your stuff. Pull out Sharpies and stickers, make a collage, and decorate your binders and book covers. Your math notebook suddenly got a lot prettier.
  • Sleepover! I just love sleepovers, and any reason to have one is good with me. But especially if you and your buds have been far apart over the summer, now is so the time. You'll have a lot to catch up on before the bell rings. Plus, who better to give you input on your first day outfit?
  • And, as always, have fun. The first day is tomorrow, whether you like it or not, so use your last day how you want. Give yourself a mani and a new 'do, hit the pool one last time, or just lounge around and do nothing at all.

It's a shame to see summer go, but the school year's got it's bright spots, too. So enjoy the last of summer, and get ready to shine in the new year. I'll be here with ya for the whole thing.

xoxo

Keeping the Balance
Hi Fab Gals!

Aren't you so happy it's Friday? Me too. The school year gets so crazy-busy that a little break feels well-deserved. But there is a way to keep a balance between school, activities, homework, and fun! Here's what to do:
  • Plan Ahead - It's okay if you aren't super-organized, but it is good to keep some kind of calendar or planner so you know what's coming up. Write down all of the important stuff - tests, dances, games - and keep it somewhere that you will see it all the time.

  • Prioritize - Yes, you are a Fab Gal, but you can't do everything and save the world in the day. Sometimes, you have to make decisions about what is most important. Maybe today it's most important that you go to the first football game, but tomorrow it might be more important for you to study for your math test than watching the latest episode of Wizards of Waverly Place. You just have to choose wisely.
  • Stay Healthy - It's so important when you are really busy to take care of your body. Make some room for healthy meals and time to work out. Also, make sure you give yourself time to sleep and recuperate. That way, your body will be able to keep up with your busy life, and you will feel so much better.

  • Don't Waste Time - There are some things, that even though we enjoy them, are really a waste of time. For example, I could spend hours on Facebook. Would I really accomplish much? Probably not. So I try to set a time limit - say, 45 minutes - so that I can do what I enjoy but have more time for things that are really important.

  • Have Fun! - This is crucial for a busy Fab Gal! You do so much, and you deserve to have time to just kick back. Having time to kick back with friends, go to a movie, or do whatever you enjoy can be refreshing after a long week. So make sure your schedule is rounded out with play time. Trust me, you deserve it!

How do you balance your busy schedule, FGs? What do you do to stay healthy, stay organized, and have fun? Leave a comment to let me know (see the instructions on the side). Of course, you can always e-mail me at fabgalsite@gmail.com.

xoxo

Rise and Shine!
Happy Friday, Fab Gals!

I don't know how many of you have started school yet, but the first week is always hard, isn't it?Especially if you're new there, which is the case for me. Being in a new environment and not knowing anyone very well can be really intimidating, especially when you are just trying to make a good impression and find where you fit in. That's how I have been spending my week - trying to find my group.

It's really funny how, when we're trying to make new friends, we spend our time seeing how we match up. Do they look like me? Have the same interests? Same personality? When you're trying so hard to fit in, it can be easy to get caught up trying to be like the people you want to impress. It seems natural that if you can seem cool and be "one of them," things will be good, because you'll have your place.

Something you should know about me: I am a little different. Not in a freaky way, like I wear cat pajamas to school or whatever, but I am definitely my own person. We Fab Gals, we're born to stand out, you know? And this whole week, I have been trying to push myself into place, to fit into this group or that one, and truthfully, I haven't been all that happy, because I haven't really gotten to be myself.

Like I said, when we think about groups of people, we think about how they are the same. But think about one person, someone you really admire. Don't you think about what's unique about them? Those things that make you different, those are the things that make you impressive. That, and having respect for yourself and everyone else. Being yourself means not everyone is going to like you. That's just the way it goes. It's like what Coco Chanel said, "In order to be irreplaceable, one must always be different." You were born to stand out, FG, and if you let yourself, you won't have to worry about finding your place because you will always be in it.

I hope school is going alright for you, and that you get your chance to stand out. If you need me, remember that I can always be reached here, by email at fabgalsite@gmail.com, or at The Fab Gal Myspace.

xoxo

Happy New School Year!
Greetings Fab Gals!

It's always hard, those last few weeks when summer is nearing it's end. No more swimming, sleeping in, spontaneous plans. In it's place comes homework, yucky food, and, ugh - the alarm clock. It's rough. But c'mon, admit it - there is always some excitement at the beginning of the year. It feels all new, especially when you're going to a new school (that's the case for me!). So here's some good goals for a fresh start:
  • Eat Lunch with a New Crowd - School lunch is lame. But you know what else is lame? Sitting in one place everyday. This is your chance to mix and mingle with new people. You might be scared, but others are probably more scared than you. So go for it, at least once a week.
  • Get a Study Buddy - If you need it, don't procrastinate. Maybe math's not your thing. No biggie. Just don't put it off - teacher's want to help, but it's harder to pick up the pieces than to just get help in the first place.
  • Try Something New - Sign up for that activity or club you've always wanted to try. It may be hard, but it will be worth it. Even if it doesn't turn out to be what you expected, you'll at least meet new people and have the experience.
  • Make "Me" Time - When the school year starts, it's hard to find time to get everything done. But you need to have some balance. Keep time to exercise, get good sleep, and watch your fave show. You body (and your spirit) will be glad you did.
  • Have Fun! - With all of these goals, or whatver you want to do this year, enjoy it! Celebrate your successes, or just celebrate your life. Give yourself room to be surprised and have fun, because that's what it's all about.

What are you hoping to do this school year, Fab Gals? What's your fave thing about going back to school? Leave a comment to let me know!

xoxo
